How to Choose a Garage Flake Color That Hides Dirt

Flake size, blend, and tone all change how a garage floor looks after a Reno winter. Here’s how to pick.

Flake color is the single biggest choice you make on a garage floor. It decides how the space feels and how often it looks dirty.

Mid-tones hide the most

Very light floors show tire marks and grit. Very dark floors show dust and salt residue. Blends that mix gray, tan, and a little black land in the middle and hide both.

Match your house, not a photo

Garage lighting is very different from showroom photos. Look at physical samples in your own garage, next to your walls, cabinets, and door, in daylight and at night.

Flake size matters

Larger flakes create a bolder, more speckled pattern. Smaller flakes read as a finer, more uniform texture. Most Reno homeowners choose a quarter-inch blend.

Think about the winter

Mag chloride leaves a whitish film as it dries. Blends with some white or light gray in them hide that film between cleanings.
